How Botox Can Help You Look Younger

Are your wrinkles becoming more pronounced? Whether it’s from the natural aging process or from too much time in the sun, wrinkles and other signs of aging can make you feel self-conscious.

At Duval Orthodontics, located in Warner Robins and Albany, Georgia, we want everyone to look and feel their best. That’s why our services go beyond orthodontic appliances. Dr. J.A. Duval offers Botox® to help reduce the appearance of frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead wrinkles.

Botox is completely safe to use in small amounts, and it’s approved by the FDA for treating wrinkles along with some other medical conditions.

What caused my wrinkles?

Smiling, laughing, and frowning are actions we do every day. But did you know that these expressions can cause wrinkles and lines over time?

These emotes cause your facial muscles to contract. After a while, the folds caused by the contractions settle and get deeper. And as you age, your skin thins and loses elasticity. That allows the wrinkles to settle and form into something called dynamic wrinkles.

Static wrinkles are another type of wrinkle. They form when damage to your skin occurs, like from the sun or smoking. Static wrinkles can also form due to poor nutrition.

Counter the signs of aging with Botox

Botox is extremely popular. Each year, over seven million Americans opt for Botox treatments.

When you smile, frown, or laugh, your brain sends electrical signals that tell your muscles to contract. Botox “paralyzes” the injected muscles. That interrupts the nerve signals and prevents the muscles from contracting.

Blocking these signals relaxes your facial muscles and softens the wrinkles. Botox can also prevent new wrinkles from forming because your facial muscles can’t contract.

How long does Botox last?

Most people start to see results anywhere between 5-10 days after their injections. But remember that Botox injections aren’t a permanent solution to wrinkles. While the treatment can eliminate and smooth them, the effect from the injections wears off after about 3-6 months.

Dr. Duval recommends getting follow-up Botox injections every three months. This time frame prevents the wrinkles from resurfacing. If you wait any longer, the creases from your wrinkles will slowly start to reform.
