How Botox Can Erase Your Wrinkles

How Botox Can Erase Your Wrinkles

We all wish that our skin would stay as tight and beautiful as when we were young. But wrinkles and age lines are an unfortunate part of getting older. There are lots of skin creams and cleansers that promise to work, but none can get rid of wrinkles like Botox can.

Our team at Duval Orthodontics, located in Warner Robins and Albany, Georgia, helps you regain your confidence through several treatments, including Botox injections. Dr. J.A. Duval is our orthodontic specialist who also helps you get the beautiful skin that you’ve been dreaming of.

Why do you get wrinkles?

When you’re young, your skin is still very flexible and untouched by external factors. However, as you age, it has less elasticity, which leads to wrinkles. But there are other factors that lead to your skin wrinkling as well.

Sun exposure is one of the leading causes of wrinkles. It not only affects the skin on your face, but also the skin on your arms, legs, and neck. The ultraviolet light that the sun emits is harmful to your skin in many ways, including speeding up the process of aging.

If you smoke, you have a much higher likelihood of developing wrinkles as well. The contaminants in cigarette smoke accelerate aging because they have a negative effect on your skin’s collagen.

Another cause of wrinkles is repeated facial expressions. Every time you squint or move your forehead, your skin creates grooves underneath your skin. Over time, the deep grooves move to the surface, leading to wrinkles and lines on your face.

But not to worry; Botox is a treatment that can help you soothe your wrinkle lines for months at a time.

Understanding Botox

Botox is a type of treatment that uses a toxin known as onabotulinumtoxin A to treat wrinkles. While Botox has many uses, it’s best known for treating cosmetic issues.

Botox works by basically “freezing” your muscles in place for a certain amount of time. The toxin keeps your muscle from moving, which decreases the signs of fine lines and noticeable wrinkles.

Not only does Botox make the wrinkles you already have less noticeable, but it also prevents new wrinkles or fine lines from forming. That is because your muscles can’t contract and create new creases underneath your skin.

The amount of Botox needed depends on how many wrinkles and lines you have on your face and the specific area being treated. At your consultation, Dr. Duval discusses your options for treatment depending on the treatment area.

When will you notice the results?

The great thing about Botox is that it’s minimally invasive and only takes a few minutes. You also don’t need any downtime after your injections, so you can continue to go about your day.

You might notice a slight difference almost immediately after your Botox injections. However, full results occur within a few days to a week. The wrinkles that you had before relax away during the first few weeks, giving you a nearly flawless complexion.

Botox generally lasts anywhere from three months to six months. As the injection starts to wear off, your facial muscles begin to contract again, allowing the wrinkles to become noticeable again.

However, the fine lines and wrinkles that you had before should be much less noticeable. Over time, botox injections basically shrink the muscles in your face because they can’t contract for several months.

If you want to keep the wrinkles completely gone, you can discuss how often you need these injections with Dr. Duval.
